Castletown

Castletown Methodist Church is a modern multi-purpose building, celebrating its Silver Jubilee in 2024. It has a small but committed congregation, who aim to make the Church a welcoming place dedicated to meeting the needs of the community, showing God’s love for all. ALL ARE WELCOME.

A worship service takes place most Sundays, followed by fellowship, and special services take place throughout the year, attracting many more of the local community. The Church is also open every Tuesday from 10 to 11.30 am for anyone to drop in for:

• some quiet time
• to light a candle and pray for someone
• to share their concerns with someone who will listen
• a chat and tea and biscuits
• a look inside our Church for those who would simply like to see it

The Church can also be opened on request outside of the usual times for anyone wanting some quiet time and prayer.

Activities for the community take place most months and include concerts, coffee mornings, free family fun events and a Christmas craft fayre.

The Church is available for hire on a one-off or regular basis, and is currently hired weekly by a craft club and a guitar class, and monthly by the NE Christian Bikers association. It is also available to organisations who want to provide an accessible service locally. For example, we recently had the Foundation of Light use the Church for their 14 week Strength and Balance programme.

We also work as part of the Sunderland Methodist Circuit of 8 Churches, and will increasingly have a closer relationship with our neighbouring High Southwick Methodist Church, holding quarterly joint services, as well as meeting regularly with the leaders of the other 5 churches ministered by our Rev John Purdy.
