At this late stage in my life I am delighted to have the privilege of conducting baptisms and fulfilling my calling.
As a retired midwife my favourite psalm is 139, particularly vs 13,14,
'You created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mothers womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, your works are wonderful.'
And so..A new born baby does not have to face a meaningless existence.
To hold a baby and say this wonderful prayer in the Baptismal service is very special.
For you Jesus Christ came into the world; for you he lived and showed God's love;
For you he suffered death on the cross;, for you he triumphed over death,
RIsing to newness of life;
For you he prays at Gods right hand:
All this for you, before you could know anything of it.
In your Baptism the word of scripture is fulfilled:
'We love, because God first loved us'.
